A pioneering organization, producing world class military robots within Age of Machines world. Created by Rogue Saint.
I'm slowly starting to shape the world titled Age of Machines. The AOM will consists of big time organizations and characters from advanced "third level" civilizations that I develop for fun in my own free time. I will attempt to write and visually create characters, logos, etc... This will be the first time for me to visually concept characters. Surely, some mistakes will be made but hope improvements come in a long run.
All AOM organizations will collectively be labeled as "industries." This is the story of one of these: Weiss-Pickerton Foundation. Enjoy.
Weiss Pickerton, basic info:
The Weiss-Pickerton Foundation is a pioneering nonprofit organization, the largest on the planet Yilon, a third-level civilization in the Yilon Galaxy. The WPF was founded by Agadore Weiss, and its primary activities are related to advancements in science, space exploration and artificial intelligence. In recent years, the foundation has become known as a major benefactor of the military’s Top Gun program. The program designs and manufactures the combat droids that have replaced the Yilon population as the planet’s primary military force.
With endowments in excess of 1K trillion, the WPF constitutes a major entity within the realm of industry in the Age of Machines world.
After graduating from college and serving five years as financial assistant to his uncle, Agadore Weiss teamed up with his college friend Beratain Pickerton and opened a small investment bank. The bank, named simply Weiss-Pickerton, survived its first few years with the help of influential family ties and powerful friends. At this early stage, the duo made headlines with risky investments highlighted with spectacular profits and losses, earning the young bankers the nickname "Gunslingers."
After these tumultuous beginnings, the gods of fortune blessed the young duo with a string of lucky investments that skyrocketed Weiss-Pickerton into the top ten investment banks just four years after it was founded. "We want to be the best, and we'll get there at all costs," the media quoted Weiss at the time. Only three years later, Weiss-Pickerton climbed to the top of the banking world in Yilon and never looked back.
Monopoly trial, breakup and death of Beratain Pickerton:
In the twenty-five years of its existence, Weiss-Pickerton acquired over 75% of the financial market on Yilon. In response to the now-megalomaniacal bank, the Yilon government charged the company with being a monopoly. "We're not a monopoly," responded Weiss to the charges. "We simply like to be better than all of our competitors. This trial is a charade. It punishes success and sends the wrong message."
The court found Weiss-Pickerton to be an unhealthy monopoly and ordered WP to break into fifty different companies spread throughout the financial sector. Just after the court decision, Beratain Pickerton, founding member of Weiss-Pickerton, died in a tragic accident during one of his thrill-seeking space journeys.
Crushed by the loss of his good friend and business partner and not willing to "bother with peanuts," as he was famously quoted, Agadore Weiss exited the financial world. However, as the only surviving founder and majority share holder of the bank that spawned fifty other institutions, Weiss become wealthier than ever. His net worth was calculated to be greater than the wealth of 60% of the Yilon population and 25% of the population of the entire galaxy.
"I am a man of faith. I believe I am destined to do something nobody else ever has. I also believe this is the beginning of that something. Something special." These are the words with which Agadore Weiss greeted the media as founder of the Weiss-Pickerton Foundation. Explaining the name and the rather interesting motto Harness Life, Weiss paid tribute to his friend Pickerton. "Bert, as friends called him, had extreme hobbies. Ordinary people would say he led a wild life. Many times he told me that the risky investments in which we involved ourselves so often seemed easy to him in comparison to his attempts to 'harness his own life,' as he termed it."
With the help of its wealthy founder and his network of powerful friends, the Weiss-Pickerton Foundation soon made stunning impacts on science, especially chemistry, biology and physics. Advancements in artificial intelligence, the creation of so-called cloudlike storming, and the invention of perpetual energy-conversion systems have made the foundation a household name.
Top Gun program and creation of droid army:
No written records of the so-called Top Gun meeting exist; however, unnamed insiders claim that Agadore Weiss approached the top military councils on Yilon after scientists funded by Weiss-Pickerton created the first cloud-like artificial intelligence and energy-conversion systems. Insiders claim that Weiss offered to create an entire army of war robots capable of achieving what "organic forms could only dream of." The program was so secretive in the beginning that the population of Yilon didn't find out about Top Gun until five years after it was allegedly initiated.
"I'm not creating a private army," Weiss downplayed his role when confronted with questions about war droids. "Military officers, people educated in these matters, are fully in charge. I'm here only if they need me. And only in a consulting role. But let me be clear. We, the leaders of Yilon... we're constantly looking for solutions to improve the security of all of our citizens in this volatile universe of ours. And even if you're a person with a strong aversion to conflict, I assure you... we're doing this for you, too."
Despite his words, many who are close to the program assert that no major decision is made without Agadore's approval. In the years following the initiation of Top Gun, the first model of the combat droids filled Yilon’s armed forces. They sent shockwaves throughout the galaxy and beyond. At a military parade featuring the first squad of war robots, Weiss tried to calm the broad public. "Yilon is committed to peace. This is a force of peace. But you are witnesses, too. We live in turbulent times, with more and more space pirates entering our settlements and enclaves. Security in our bordering galaxies is deteriorating. We just want to make sure we keep our freedom and our way of life."
So far, the Top Gun program has produced more than twenty thousand droids for advanced technological warfare.
